¡°Kill the Ito Hirobumi inside of us!¡± According to Ahn Jung-geun, the war of history is not over---Criticism of colonialism ¨î

Baeksan Lee/History Columnist

In 1907, Ahn Jung-geun(äÌñìÐÆ 1879~1910) participated in the national debt repayment movement that took place across the country. In July of that year, when King Gojong of the Korean Empire was deposed, he fled abroad. Let's find out the background and circumstances of his exile through his ¡°History of Ahn Eung-chil.¡±

¡°In 1907 (Jeongmi), Hirobumi Ito returned to Korea and settled the ¡®Seven Treaty¡¯, dethroned Emperor Gwangmu and disbanded the army. In response, 20 million people were mobilized at once. Volunteers revolted everywhere, and the mountains of Samchulli were covered with gunfire. At this time, I hurriedly set up and left my family, and when I arrived in Bukgando, the Japanese military had just been stationed there, and there was no place to set foot. So, after visiting various places for three or four months, he left and entered Russian territory. When we passed Yeonchu and reached Vladivostok, there were 4,000 Koreans living there¡± (¡°The History of Ahn Eung-chil¡±).

What is important here is the so-called "7th Treaty of Jeongmi", the dethronment of Emperor Gojong and the dissolution of the military. The instigator of this work is Ito Hirobumi (ì¥ÔöÚÏÙþ).

On February 8, 1904, the Russo-Japanese War broke out with the Japanese Navy's surprise attack on Ryeo-sun. When the war broke out, in March of that year, Ito was appointed as a special ambassador for consolation to the king in order to crack down on Korea. Due to Ito's influence, Korea declared a severance of diplomatic ties with Russia in May. At this time, Ahn Jung-geun said about the Russo-Japanese war, ¡°If Russia wins, there is a risk that it will be annexed to Russia, and if Japan wins, there is a risk that it will be annexed by Japan.¡±

In 1905, Ito deprived Korea of diplomatic rights and placed it under Japanese jurisdiction. When Hirobumi returned to Tokyo in August 1907, he was greeted like a triumphal general.//

In June 1907, the Japanese forcibly abdicated King Gojong and installed Sunjong on the throne. Proposal of a new treaty stipulating the enactment of laws, the power to appoint officials, administrative power, and the appointment of Japanese officials (deputy ministers), etc., on July 24, 1907 was forcibly concluded. The Japanese imperial government (later to become the Governor-General), which held all powers in one hand, seized most of the Korean sovereignty, and further disbanded the military to eliminate the armed resistance of Korea against the Japanese imperialism.//

1895 (Eulmi) is an important year for the first Euibyeong soldier. The Eulmi Incident (ëàÚ± ÞÀܨ) and Danbalyeong (Ó¨Û¥Öµ), which assassinated Empress Myeongseong , were a protest against the forced enforcement (Eulmi Reform). Eulsa's Euibyeong soldier (ëàÞÓ, ëùܲ) was caused by the signing of the agreement, and the third period was Jeongmi's Euibyeong soldier (ïËÚ±ëùܲ), which was stimulated by the 1907 Korea-Japan New Treaty.

Jeongmi Euibyeong originated from the forced dissolution of the Korean army on August 1, 1907 and the war against Japan by the disbanded soldiers who protested against it. When the disbanded soldiers heard the news that Park Seung-hwan (ÚÓã°üº), the commander of the demonstrators battalion in Seoul, committed suicide on the same day that the disbandment ordinance was issued, they started a resistance war against Japan while conducting a street battle with the Japanese army. After that, disbanded soldiers from each province also rose one after another.

First, on August 2nd, the soldiers of the Wonju Jinwidae (ê«ñ¶òåêÛÓé) occupied the arsenal at once, and then joined the militia there and took control of Wonju. The soldiers of Judae, Yeoju, who heard the news, also joined the main unit the next day.//

Next, the soldiers of the Ganghwa Detachment (Ë°ü¤ÝÂ̺Óé) fought against Japan on August 10, and once seized Ganghwaseong, but were dispersed to various places after being attacked by the Japanese army. In addition, the Hongju detachment and the Jinwi Jinwi unit also promoted the uprising plan.//

Min Geung-ho, Park Jun-seong, and Son Jae-gyu, the disbanded soldiers of the Wonju Jin Guard, formed their own Euibyeong-jin(ëùܲòæ) and were active in Gangwon-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, and Gyeonggi-do. Lee Gang-nyeon (×ÝˬҶ) and Shin Dol-seok (ãéÔÌà´) and others engaged in anti-Japanese guerrilla warfare in the northern area of Gyeongsangbuk-do, respectively.//

Next, in Gyeonggi-do, Hui (úÉêÙ) enlisted the soldiers of the Ganghwa detachment led by Yeongi-woo (æÅÐñéâ), and formed a strong basis for resistance in Pocheon and Yeoncheon in the Imjin River basin. And in the Honam area, Anui and Geochang areas of Gyeongsangnam-do, and Gongju, Hoedeok, Yeonsan, and Jinjam, centered on the border area between Jeollabuk-do and Chungcheongnam-do, Kim Dong-shin organized and played an active role in the Euibyeong-jin.

Meanwhile, in the North Korean region, voluntary military anti-Japanese warfare was actively conducted during this period. In Hwanghae-do, Park Jeong-bin and Lee Jin-ryong led an uprising in Pyeongsan, and Kim Su-min, a commoner, Euibyeong-jin, formed a powerful force from Jangdan in Gyeonggi-do to Seoheung in Hwanghae-do.//

In the case of Pyeongan-do, Ui Byeong-jin of Kim Yeo-seok (ÑÑæ£à¸) was active in the Deokcheon and Maengsan areas, and Chae Eung-eon carried out the anti-Japanese war in the border area of Hamgyeong-do and Pyeongan-do. In the Battle of Hamgyeong-do Euibyeong Anti-Japanese, Hong Beom-do (ûóÛôÓñ) and Cha Do-seon gathered together the Sanpo-su and mine workers from Samsu and Gapsan to form a strong military army.//

Choi Jae-hyeong (õËî¤úû) formed the Euibyeong-jin with Lee Beom-yoon, Um In-seop, and Ahn Jung-geun in his hometown of Gyeongwon, North Hamgyeong Province. At this time, a large-scale domestic vacuum operation by the Primoryean volunteers centered on the Dongdonghoe and the Changuidae was launched in July 1908. In other words, 200-300 medics from the Primordial Province, led by Jeon Jeon-ik and below, Ahn Jung-geun and Um In-seop, etc., were waiting at the Tuman River alternative, then crossed the river on July 7 and advanced into Hongui-dong, Gyeongheung-gun. That was the beginning. Choi Jae-hyung and Lee Beom-yun did not directly participate in the domestic vacuum operation.//

Ahn Jung-geun participated in the domestic vacuum operation as a commander of Dong-eui-gun and had a unit. It is a system in which the members of the donguihoe are the highest commander, Dojang, and under him, the seated commander and the right commander. The top commanders of the Dong-Eui Army were Jeon-ik Jeon in Dojang-eok, In-seop Uhm in-seop and Jung-geun Ahn in Woo-jang. As can be seen in this organization, Ahn Jung-geun was a key cadre of the Primorsky medics and a field commander who played an important role in the process of developing the anti-Japanese war. As part of a domestic vacuum operation, Ahn Jung-geun led his medics from Posiette on July 7, 1908, and crossed the Tumen River. After crossing the river, Ahn Jung-geun's corps of volunteers started the anti-Japanese war at Hongui-dong, Gyeongheung-gun, on the Tuman River.//

¡°It was around the 5th of the 6th lunar calendar in 1908 that I was engaged in combat as a Euibyeongl soldier¡¦ With Lee Beom-yoon¡¯s former police officer Jeon Ik as the general, Um In-seop became the left commander, and I became the right commander. He crossed the Tuman River with 50 volunteers and sent to Gyeongheungbu.¡±//

According to Kim Bong-jin's research, Ahn Jung-geun's position at that time is considered to be "Lieutenant-General of the Staff and Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Forces". Ahn Jung-geun was dispatched to Gyeongheungbu in the 6th month of the lunar calendar in 1908 to fight the Japanese army. At this time, Ahn Jung-geun said as he released the captured enemies despite the opposition around them. It is quoted from ¡°Ahn Jung-geun and Japan, Japanese¡± written by Kim Bong-jin (emeritus professor at Kitakyusu University, Japan) (Newly published by Knowledge Industry Co., Ltd.).//

He said, ¡°Only after accusing Ito¡¯s vicious strategy and making it known to the world, will he be able to relieve his resentment and regain national sovereignty. It is the so-called weakness to defeat the strong, and to oppose the evil law with good manners.¡± (Kim Bong-jin, ¡°Ahn Jung-geun and Japan, Japanese¡±)//

Finally, when Ahn Jung-geun arrived in Vladivostok on October 19th, rumors abounded that Ito would come. Ahn Jung-geun checked it over and over again, and it was unmistakable information. ¡°To be able to achieve the purpose I had been wishing for for many years without anyone else¡¯s knowledge! I will put an end to the old thief with my own hands!¡± he rejoiced. The fateful day was October 26, 1909, around 9:30 am.

Ahn Jung-geun, who saw that Ito's vicious strategy was in the extortion of Joseon, entered Vladivostok, Russia, on February 7, 1909.

He soon organized a secret society called Danjihoe (Ó¨ò¦会, Danji Alliance) under the guidance of Jaehyeong Choi, who served as the first finance minister of the Provisional Government.

At this time, Ahn Jung-geun and other members made a plan to assassinate Hirobumi Ito and Lee Wan-yong, who were blamed for the invasion of Joseon, and said that they would atone for the people by suicide if they did not succeed within three years. So, he cut off the fourth finger of his left hand and strengthened his will to fight against Japan with blood.

At this time, Ahn Jung-geun, who cut off the ring finger of his left hand, used the blood to write the four letters on the front of his Taegeukgi, indicating the independence of Korea. After he finished writing, he sang ¡®Long live the Korean independence¡¯ three times at once, and then he made an oath to heaven and earth. His place is Yeonchu (æÕõÕ, Yanchihe, present-day Kraschino) of Nam Uslik. Choi Jae-hyeong's house was here in Yeonchu.

¡°I thought, ¡®That guy must be the old thief Ito¡¯. He immediately drew out his gun and fired four shots at his right, and as he thought about it, his doubts crossed his head. It was because I didn't know Ito's face. If you shot it wrong, it would be a huge disappointment. So he turned to the back and fired three consecutive shots, aiming at the proud leader among the Japanese entourage. Then I thought about it again, and if I ever shot an innocent person the wrong way, it must have been a bad thing. I was caught by the Russian military police who approached me while I was thinking.¡± (¡°The History of Ahn Eung-chil¡±)

As such, Ahn Jung-geun assassinated Ito, the monster of the invasion of Korea, in Harbin, the homeland of Dangun Joseon. However, on the 27th, one day after Ito's death, Sunjong visited the mortuary prepared by the General Superintendent's Office to pay tribute to him, and the next day he gave Ito the title of Munchunggong (Ùþõ÷Íë). He also sent condolence delegations. What a ghastly thing this is!

There is one thing to correct here. So-called Ito's last words. Just before Ito passed away, while undergoing a doctor's examination, the interpreter heard that the interpreter said that the culprit was Korean. It is said that this phrase comes from a Japanese eyewitness account of Muroda.

Baekam Park Eun-sik made a similar statement. In ¡°Ahn Jung-geunjeon¡± written by Baek-am in 1912, when Ito was shot, he pointed to Ahn Jung-geun and sweared at him as ¡°Baka-Ø©Öã (idiot).¡± However, the 1915 ¡°Korean History¡± did not quote this phrase. However, when Ito was hit with three bullets in his stomach, he collapsed with a scream of ¡°Ah!¡±, and immediately fainted. This can be seen as a modification of the 'bacca' mentioned at the beginning.

Sang-il Han pointed out that the term ¡®stupid guy¡¯ is ¡°a record made later in the day to dramatize death and distort the military battle¡±, and Kim Bong-jin also saw that it is ¡°probably a fabricated fiction,¡± which is probably the true essence of Doctor Ahn Jung-geun.

Ahn Jung-geun made it clear at the trial that Hirobu Ito was the eternal enemy of Korea and the enemy of mankind around the world.

¡°I am the Chief of Staff of the Korean Euibyeong soldier. He said, ¡°I was going to kill Ito and restore independence by recruiting Euibyeong and purchasing weapons,¡± and after changing into hanbok at 10 a.m. on March 10, 1910, he said, ¡°I am dying for Korean independence, and I am dying for peace in the East. But, how can you be sorry?¡± He laughed calmly.

Upon Ito's death, the Minister of the Army Terauchi became his successor. At this time, the people's hearts were atrocious when they heard that they were forcibly annexed. Lee Jae-myung and others began to punish tyrants like Lee Wan-yong. Jae-myung Lee stabbed Lee Wan-yong in the waist and back, but was unable to kill him, and he was sentenced to death. The second Ahn Jung-geun appeared one after another. Purity and patriotism followed.

As Kim Bong-jin, an emeritus professor at Kitakyusu University pointed out in ¡°Ahn Jung-geun and Japan and the Japanese,¡± the Japanese literate would not have enlisted Korea if the Korean people had actively supported Ito¡¯s policy of government. I'm assuming this would have been realized in Asia. This is just a sophistry that Ito's 'proper evaluation = not defended' - not empirical and tied to Ahn Jung-geun - is the fault of Koreans. Ahn Jung-geun does not become great by disparaging Ito.

Ahn Jung-geun was a great pacifist even if he was not Ito. Ahn Jung-geun's peace was based on Korea's independence and Japan's protection of trust. Ito was a pioneer of imperialistic aggression, an evangelist of the distorted view of the Empire, and a traitor to oriental peace.

Therefore, we must kill the remnants of Ito that remain within us. He is the culprit of the historical war. Dr. Ahn Jung-geun earnestly calls us today. ¡°If we lose to Ito, our country will collapse again. Kill the Ito within you. Like I did.¡±

The lesson that Ahn Jung-geun's life gives us today is the fact that "the historical war between countries in Northeast Asia is still not over and fiercely ongoing." In order for us to win the war of history, it is necessary to first clear the false colonial history distorted by the Japanese imperialists and record the right history on it. ( lee291838@naver.com )
